You know me, I’m all about butter, which is why I’m thrilled to be part of the Land O’Lakes Kitchen Conversations panel for the third year! Yay! My first experience with French toast was thanks to my older sister, Quyen. She also introduced me to crepes and tuna pasta salad, recipes I’ve already shared on The Little Kitchen. I cherish those memories of Quyen cooking for me and our siblings. 😊
In my family of six kids, she’s the eldest, and I’m the second oldest. With our mom working two jobs when we were young, Quyen stepped up like a second mom, caring for and cooking for us.
When it came time to put a twist on French toast, I decided to make them into sticks with a wonderfully dippable sauce using Land O’Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil. It’s incredibly easy, and I believe your kids will LOVE it—adults too!
Last week, I visited Ree’s ranch in Oklahoma and stayed at her lodge, where she films her Food Network show. The setting was beautiful and tranquil. We indulged in many delicious dishes, including each other’s recipes. Ree’s strawberry muffins with strawberry butter were out of this world! Seriously, you have to try the butter and strawberry combo!
I can’t wait to share more about my ranch visit with you later this week!
For my French toast sticks, I buy hearty, homestyle bread from the bakery and specifically request unsliced loaves. I then cut them into 1-inch thick slices and further into 1-inch thick sticks. Whisk together eggs, vanilla extract, and sugar until smooth. Add melted butter, followed by milk, and whisk again.
Just like my sister used to do, I fry my French toast in Land O’Lakes® Unsalted Butter. Quickly dip the sticks in the egg and milk mixture—no need to soak them too long, or they’ll get soggy. Cook them on all sides: 2 minutes on the first side and 1 minute each on the remaining sides.
Once cooked, mix Land O’Lakes® Butter with Canola Oil and maple syrup with a whisk. The spreadable butter’s soft texture makes preparing the dipping sauce a breeze.
This amazing dipping sauce is perfect for brunch, breakfast, or even dinner! Who else loves breakfast for dinner?
These French toast sticks are officially my new favorite brunch item! I’m confident you’ll love them too if you give them a try! The maple butter dipping sauce is a real highlight—whether you dip or drizzle, it’s a winner!
